Jacobsen gives us a fast paced, eye-opening account of a top-secret program which employed former Nazis on behalf of America. After WW2 four things happened to Nazi leaders: (1) They died in the war or by suicide (2) They were condemned in war tribunals like Nuremberg (3) They escaped to places such as South America (4) The US government gave them a chance to be a part of Operation Paperclip.
Have you ever heard the name Werner Von Braun? He was a loyal Nazi during the war. Von Braun even developed the V2 rocket for Germany. After the war Paperclip brought him to America where he worked for the army and eventually NASA. If Von Braun didn’t come to the US, it is doubtful the Apollo missions would have ever reached the moon. He is one of the less objectionable participants in the Operation Paperclip program, but others were much worse. Some of these former Nazis helped develop poisonous gas used in concentration camps back in Germany and later contributed to the advancement of chemical weapons when they arrived in America after the war.
I enjoyed this page turner very much. I give it an 8 out of 10.
